VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – September 6, 2026 – Author Thokgor Reech has released Agriculture Development for Food Security: Building Resilient Agriculture in the Makuach Community, a book examining sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and community-driven development in South Sudan’s Makuach region.

The book presents approaches to strengthening rural food systems, addressing challenges including hunger, poverty, environmental change, and limited access to educational opportunities. It examines how agricultural resilience, food security, and access to education intersect in rural community settings, and outlines practical steps communities can take to address them together rather than as separate problems.

The book draws on grassroots agricultural initiatives and real-world community development work rather than academic theory alone. It discusses the role of community participation in building resilient food systems, including how local involvement in planning and implementation affects the durability of agricultural projects over time. The book frames food security as connected to longer-term outcomes for a community, including educational access for children and stability for families.

Reech has worked in community development across Australia and Africa for more than twenty years. In 2005 he founded the Luacjang Youth Students Association, and he later supported the establishment of Makuach Secondary School in South Sudan. His work has included community awareness initiatives on peace, children’s education, and agricultural development, along with support for educational materials, teacher assistance programs, and rural development projects in the region.
