Having completed three full-length albums, each as unpredictable as it is compelling, Anjalts sets an even higher expectation for her fourth album— her latest release, ‘Through the Fray’ trickles onto the charts of dancers worldwide. The narrative confronts a world where, as the man in the song plainly puts it, we only came here for a really short deal. It is existential without being heavy — weightless, almost — which is precisely the paradox Anjalts has always navigated so effortlessly.
The recurring Double Take refrain acts as both a rhythmic hook and a conceptual device, inviting listeners to look twice at what is real and what is imagined. The line between—nightmare— and dreamscape is deliberately thin here. Anjalts even coins her own term—tightmare. It is a brilliantly claustrophobic hybrid word that perfectly encapsulates the inescapable anxieties and underlying displacement of modern life, making the listener ache for that ultimate lunar escape or find our own zen space within.
“When I met Anjalts at the studio, she really does not say much — she just plays the music and I am there, like teleport me to the moon too,” describes Acen Sinclair, Studio Engineer at IXO Music. What struck me was not the fact of how much writing and producing she does every chance she gets — carries this hope for everyone.
She is like a child holding on to some kind of magical imagery for everyone to find their inner strength and make it through the fray.”
