Minnesota real estate professional Amy Gonyea is encouraging buyers, sellers, and investors to ask better questions, track key steps, and reduce confusion in the property process.

Amy Gonyea is raising awareness about the need for clearer communication in real estate at a time when many people feel pressure, confusion, and uncertainty during major property decisions.

With more than a decade of experience in Minnesota real estate, Gonyea has worked with buyers, sellers, and investors across the Twin Cities. Her message is simple. People need clearer information before, during, and after a real estate transaction.

“People don’t like surprises during a transaction,” Gonyea says. “A lot of stress can be avoided when expectations are clear from the beginning.”

The issue matters now. The National Association of Realtors reported that first-time buyers fell to a historic low of 24% of buyers in 2024. The median age of first-time buyers also reached 38. These figures show how difficult and delayed the path to homeownership has become for many people.

Gonyea believes that better communication can help people feel more prepared.

“Even a quick update can make a big difference,” she says. “People just want to know what’s happening.”

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also reminds buyers that they have three business days to review their Closing Disclosure before closing. That review period is meant to give people time to ask questions and understand what they are signing.

“There’s more information today, but not always more clarity,” Gonyea says. “Part of my job is helping people focus on what actually matters.”

Gonyea is encouraging individuals to take simple steps on their own. These include writing down questions, tracking deadlines, reviewing documents carefully, asking for plain-language explanations, and keeping notes during each stage of a transaction.

Her awareness effort is also shaped by her belief that real estate is connected to stability and community impact. Gonyea has been involved in initiatives tied to homeless veterans and housing-related support.

“Housing creates stability, and stability changes lives,” she says.

As part of the effort, Gonyea is asking people to take a personal clarity pledge:

  • Ask questions early.

  • Keep written notes.

  • Track key dates.

  • Review documents before signing.

  • Request simple explanations.

  • Communicate changes quickly.

  • Share helpful resources with others.

“The market changes all the time,” Gonyea says. “But people still want honesty, responsiveness, and clear information.”
