Organic Dark Chocolate Almond Butters Made With Lentils.

Broma, short for ‘theobroma’, the scientific name of chocolate, is a company founded in 2019 by lifelong friends Taylor Smith and Stanley Stilwell in response to learning about Taylor’s 96-year old grandmother’s protein deficiency. Their secret ingredient, lentils, packs in 6g of complete protein, 4g of fiber, and vital but commonly missed nutrients such as folate and iron in each serving of almond butter. Broma dark chocolate almond butters are where functional meets tasty.

What makes Broma different from every other almond butter on the market is the simple ingredients and its ability to straddle the line between a nut butter and a chocolate spread: all varieties are made with natural cacao powder, and plant-powered protein. A handful spreads tout protein but when it comes to plant-based eating, it is important for plant-based eaters to receive all essential amino acids also known as complete proteins. With about a cup of lentils per jar of almond butter, Broma makes sure to include the full range of the recommended nine amino acids, making Broma one of the first almond butters to be a complete protein. Additionally, the lentils contribute to the thick and creamy consistency while providing fiber, protein, and iron.

Broma prides itself on its transparent, whole food label and its ability to claim the healthiest dark chocolate almond butter on the market. With only 3g of coconut sugar per serving, being vegan and kosher, it’s likely to fit into a variety of diets. “The mission is to always provide delicious, transparent foods and whole ingredients packed with micronutrients so it’s not compromising health and flavor,” says CEO/Co-founder, Smith. Her favorite way to consume Broma? A spoonful out of the jar right before bed. Additionally, as a fat and a flour replacement, Broma is commonly used in baking to increase nutrient density and/or veganize baking but it’s also easy to consume in smoothies, on toasts, and with fruit as a dip.

In its first year, it broke into retailers such as Fairway and Erewhon. Now, in their second year, Broma has gained recognition nationwide in the nut butter category through press such as USAToday, VegNews, FreshLiving, The Austin Chronicle, KUTV 2 NEWS, and ABC4. Additionally, as a woman-founded and LGBTQ+-founded company they gained support through the Women and Business Enterprise Network (WBENC) and have been featured in the James Beard Foundation Pride campaign.

The company recently went through a product refresh, upgrading its branding, website, and original three flavors of Original, Coconut, and Cherry, to include Pumpkin Spice, and, coming December 2021, Mocha in collaboration with Youtuber, Taylor Woods. Come the new year, to-go packets will be dropped across their online site of eatbroma.com and in all 70+ retailers across the United States.

You can try Broma online at EatBroma.com and across 70+ retailers which are accessible via their store locator. Support Broma at @eatbroma on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
