An addiction center in Ontario has warned that addicts should seriously consider professional help in kicking their habit, rather than opting for the DIY at home approach.

Addictions.ca, which is a treatment center in the remote and beautiful Thousand Islands area, offers an idyllic escape with a full range of support services for those who are dealing with drug and alcohol addiction and want to reset their lives.

Doctors, nurses, counsellors, fitness instructors and nutrition experts provide relapse prevention workshops; life management courses; individual, group and family counselling sessions; supervised medical detox; meditation and yoga; art and music therapy; fitness and nutrition routines and recreational activities all under the one roof.

Different treatment approaches work for different people and treatment techniques can differ from one facility to the next. Addictions.ca said the choice of treatment center is so key to a patient’s recovery that it can determine their sobriety and even their quality of life once a rehab program has finished.

A spokesperson from Addiction.ca said: “The right treatment services will dictate the success of someone’s rehabilitation. People need to consider what services are available; which professional staff they will have access to; the location – do they need to be close to friends and family or will cutting themselves off from a toxic life be a better approach; and how will they be supported after their stay.

“One of the most difficult parts of the process is the physical withdrawal from the substances. With professional help and proper medical supervision that we offer, the detox symptoms can be managed and our clients are kept safe. Withdrawal can be extremely dangerous and even life-threatening, and without the right support relapse is highly likely.

“Addictions.ca sets itself aside from other facilities because we treat each individual with their own tailor-made program. In addiction recovery, one size does not fit all and if you try to implement that sort of regime, people will fail,” he added.

Patients travel from across Canada and America to use the Addictions.ca treatment center for its holistic approach.

Addiction can tear families apart and Addictions.ca runs a special family and friends counselling service to help them to get through the complicated situation that addiction finds them in. Through this process, it helps to set up a safe and happy environment for their clients to return after the treatment program.

The post rehab support means that people who use Addictions.ca are not left on their own when they are faced with returning to the outside world. The treatment center offers clients a 24-hour support line, continued monitoring and tweaking of their rehabilitation program, educational material, help finding ongoing support groups in their area and referral to local therapists and counsellors.
